I was working away from home watching, sat in a hotel watching a TV show about a Greek island called Aiona (which definitely wasn’t me misremembering Iona).

This islands geography was unique as it had a large dammed reservoir filled via a tall waterfall at one side of the island, and the capital city on the island was on a collection of islands above the water line of the reservoir itself. The water level in the dam was also able to be changed for special events if more or less land were needed and people would use gondolas to get around when the water level was increased.

The island also produced a special kind of oil that was collected from the surface of the water and was produced by plant-like animals that floated lazily on top of the water like lilies. You could disturb this oil sheen and watch the iridescence play on the water before settling again.

In the city, there were white stone towers with smaller rooms suspended from them on wrought iron metal arms that had loungers in them that people would use to sunbathe
